There have been many articles written about the interview suit. People love to talk about the power suit and all of its glory. Its no mystery as to why the power suit is glorified. The reason is that many people never need to buy anything other than the power suit since they won't have to wear a suit once they have gotten the job. They don't know how to look good in a suit because they don't do it very often.
Sadly, you won't find a whole lot of articles on the office suit. Even though most employees do not have to wear a suit to the office, there are still some that must. Somebody that wears a suit five days a week shouldn't have a closet that consists of a power suit and nothing else. These people should be prepared with an office suit or two to wear each week.
I wrote this article to talk about what kinds of suits folks can wear to work. I'll talk about the suits you would want to wear to a very formal job and the suits you would wear to one that is slightly more relaxed.
When you need to wear a suit on a daily basis, you'll have to diversify your colors. The navy blue pinstripe suit might look good on Monday, but by Friday people will start to wonder why you are still wearing the same suit. Mix your suit colors up by getting yourself some charcoal gray suits, some suits without pinstripes, and even a black suit.
Formal settings will not let you wear any shirt colors other than white and blue. When working in these settings, you'll just have to vary the look up with the use of different ties. You'll find that less formal environments will allow you to wear shirts that vary from white and blue. Stay subtle and choose off whites, light pinks, greens, and yellows.
Be sure to keep in mind that your office clothing does not need to be bought in one shopping trip. Just get enough to allow you to change your clothes up throughout the week. Once you have been working for a little while you can use your money to buy new outfits.
Bonus Tip: Always keep an extra white shirt and a tie in your office or your car if necessary. When you have an extra shirt, you can easily take care of accidents like coffee spills without having to go home.
